This prestigious award recognizes and celebrates Jessica’s dedication to community leadership through service. Jessica Greenwood is a fourth year pharmacy student at Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy (NSU COP) and graduated in 2008 from Boston University with a bachelors in Biology specializing in Neuroscience.
In pharmacy school, Jessica served as the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) Chapter President where she planned, organized, and participated in over 150 community events reaching thousands of South Florida’s community members. Some key events included educating high school students about prescription drug abuse through the Generation RX program, organizing smoking cessation outreach programs with the Area Health Education Center (AHEC), and providing free health care screenings at the Miami Dade Health Fair in collaboration with the Florida Pharmacy Association (FPA).
Jessica played an impressively significant role in pharmacy advocacy efforts by coordinating several major events, including the 2016 and 2017 Legislative Days for NSU COP, the 2017 FPA Presidential Debate, letter writing campaigns, and legislative hill visits in Washington, DC during the APhA-ASP Summer Leadership Institute.
Jessica is currently serving on the FPA Public Affairs Council, is a Student Trustee for the Florida Pharmacy Foundation, and previously served on the FPA Student Affairs Council. In 2016, Jessica was inducted into the Phi Lambda Sigma Honor Leadership Society at the NSU COP for her leadership through her extensive community and organizational involvement. She was also inducted into The Rho Chi Society pharmacy academic honor society as a member of the top %5 of her pharmacy school class as ranked by grade point average. Additionally, she maintained a continuous presence on the chancellor’s list every semester throughout her first three years in pharmacy school. Jessica co-authored a publication on the anti-epileptic medication perampanel in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics journal and is currently working on submission of a systematic review of the role of micro-doses of lithium in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Jessica plans on pursuing a PGY1 clinical pharmacy residency upon graduation followed by a PGY2 in geriatrics or psychiatry.
The Norman Tomaka & Family Community Service Award was recently established by Norman Tomaka in honor of his mentor Alton Tower to recognize a pharmacy student’s exceptional dedication to community service, involvement in Florida Pharmacy Association activities, and leadership. The award is presented once a year at the Florida Pharmacy Association’s Annual Meeting where the recipient is recognized with an award and a $1,000 check.[/fusion_person][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
